So, you may be asking yourself: If this site is about Dan, then why the web address JohnOfPatmos.com?

Well, that's a good question. The reason that I chose that domain is because of my obsession with the book of Revelations. The author of Revelations addresses himself several times as John, who was told by an Angel to record the visions he suffered from while exiled on the Island of Patmos. It was there that he claimed to have received his first vision of the end of days. The Angel went on to warn John not change the text of his visions through subsequent edit, in order to maintain it's integrity. Imagine being his agent? Anyways, it was because of his visions and writings, that he became known as John of Patmos. Ta-Da! The Address. Sort-of my tribute to John and his work.

The book of Revelations has been the source of much scrutiny, and was almost omitted in entirity from the New Testament in the Fourth Century because of the difficulties of interpreting it, and that it was considered to hold potential "danger for abuse" due to its content. Some discredited it because they looked at is as foretelling the future, something greatly looked down upon.

In spite of all this, the book of Revelations has managed to survive, and to this day remains a great source of debate. Wheter John was insane or in fact did receive visions from God, I personally find Revelations to be exciting, and holding of truth -- in addition to being a great source of inspirtion for my writing. ;)
